  • Multi-factor authentication without a smartphone (Proton Authenticator)
    Down

To strengthen the security of your Billit account, you can set up multi-factor authentication (two-step verification) when you log in.

In addition to your usual password, you'll confirm your identity with a temporary security code generated on your smartphone. Thanks to this double security, stealing your login details will no longer be enough for cybercriminals to hack your account, giving your company data considerably stronger protection.

    Activation

    Step 1: Install Proton Authenticator

To generate your security codes, download and install the Proton Authenticator app on your smartphone from the official page: proton.me/authenticator (available for iOS and Android).

Step 2: Add the Billit secret key

    1. Open the Proton Authenticator app and click 'Create a new code'.

    2. In the Title field, enter the login email address of your Billit account.

    3. On your Billit setup screen, below the QR code, copy the long string of characters (the secret key).

    4. Paste this key into the Secret field in Proton Authenticator.

    5. In the Issuer field, enter 'Billit' so you can easily identify your code.

Step 3: Enter the validation code

The Proton Authenticator app immediately generates a temporary 6-digit code. Enter this code in the corresponding box in Billit, then click 'Activate MFA'. Two-step verification is now active.

    Everyday use

The next times you log in to Billit, you'll be asked for an additional login code after entering your username and password. Simply open the Proton Authenticator app on your smartphone to get the active code under the 'Billit' entry.

Fixing the 'Invalid code' MFA error

If the platform says your MFA code is invalid when you log in, this problem is almost always caused by an incorrect time or date on your smartphone. Because the security codes are synchronized with real time, your devices must show exactly the right time.

    Requirements at a glance:

    • Date and time must be set to automatic.

    • The correct time zone must be enabled.

    • The 24-hour format must be used.

How to set up your smartphone:

Go to your phone's Settings > Date and time and adjust the following options:

    • Step 1: Automatic date and time Turn on the 'Set automatically' option. Your device will sync with the exact time provided by the mobile network.

    • Step 2: Automatic time zone Turn on the automatic time zone and check that the time zone shown matches your region (for example: Europe/Paris).

    • Step 3: Set the time zone using location (If available) Turn on this option if your mobile network tends to send an incorrect time zone.

    • Step 4: Use the 24-hour format Make sure the 24-hour format is turned on.

    What next?

    1. Close the Proton Authenticator app completely, then reopen it.

    2. Try to log in to Billit again using the new code shown.

Still having problems? If your time settings are correct but the error still blocks your access:

    • Check that your smartphone shows today's correct date (not just the time).

    • Restart your smartphone.
