When you add a new customer in Billit, you can use other official identification numbers in addition to the company number, such as a KBO, DUNS, GLN, or LEI number.
These extra identifiers can help to correctly identify your customer and check whether they are active on the Peppol network. Which identifiers are available depends on the country of your customer.
It is recommended to always check via btw-opzoeken.be whether your customer is correctly registered.
Click on Billit under Customers.
Click +Add.
Select whether it concerns a Company or a Private Individual.
Enter the Company number.
Click the + icon next to the company number. A selection list with extra identifiers will appear.
Possible options (depending on the country):
KBO – Crossroads Bank for Enterprises (Belgium)
DUNS – International business identification number
GLN – Global Location Number
LEI – Legal Entity Identifier (often used in the financial sector)
Note: Not every country uses the same identifiers. The available options differ per country.
Choose the correct type of identifier.
Enter the correct number.
Billit can automatically retrieve the customer details based on this (if available).
Tip: This is especially useful for international customers or companies that are active on the Peppol network.
For Belgian companies, it is strongly recommended to:
Check the VAT number via https://www.btw-opzoeken.be
Verify whether:
The number is valid
The company details match
The company is active
This prevents errors in invoicing and Peppol delivery.
Companies that are registered with a correct identifier (such as KBO, GLN, or LEI) can be active on the Peppol network.
When you use the correct number:
Billit can automatically detect whether the customer supports Peppol.
You can send invoices directly via Peppol.
You avoid error messages during sending.
